With an early start in manufacturing and a few years in customer site technical service, Kent wasn’t into a new laboratory management role long before he became one of 3M’s leading cross functional development team leaders. Early new product successes included a reformulated, value

optimized VHS video tape which earned 3M more than $100 million in revenue during its first year in the market, and the development of 3M’s family of multi layer flex circuit solutions. In 1998, Kent left 3M to co-found Extreme Devices, an Austin, Texas based, wide bandgap semiconductor fabrication company developing SiC, GaN, and Diamond based devices. As Extreme Devices CEO, Kent personally lead a team of more than 100 technical staff and authored several key

patents that made up the backbone of the company’s technology portfolio. Over an 8 year period, the company raised more than $35 million USD in venture capital and was acquired by Fairchild Semiconductor. Extreme Devices had a joint venture with Hitachi and joint development

agreements with both LG and Samsung.

After the acquisition of Extreme Devices, Kent co

founded SensorTran , a company focused on the development of Distributed Temperature Sensing

(DTS) instruments. While in his role as CEO, Kent was introduced for the first time to applications in upstream and midstream oil & gas markets. He

again directly managed the company’s technical team and personally authored multiple patents including those related to the company’s core,

multi laser DTS technology. The company’s largest customers included: Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Pinnacle Technologies, Weatherford and Shell.

The company raised more than $20 million USD in equity capital and was acquired in 2014 by Halliburton. In order to service

SensorTran’s pipeline monitoring customer base, Kent was granted an exception to his non compete with Halliburton. He founded Topside Solutions and moved to Abu Dhabi where he spent two years managing the installation of pipeline monitoring systems on more than 75km of heated pipelines for a handful of ADNOC construction projects. As the Abu Dhabi pipeline work was culminating, Kent was approached by a regional oilfield services company, headquartered in Dubai and working in Saudi Arabia, and asked to assist with the development of an enhanced well intervention platform. Soon thereafter, SensorTran introduced its first downhole tool package for enhanced stimulation services. In order to support Topside’s expansion into the downhole tools market,

SensorTran was merged with AKOS Energy Services to form AKOS Energy Corporation in 2017. Kent was named the surviving entity’s CEO. After delivering customized enhanced well service platforms to a few customers operating in Saudi Arabia, Kent led the transition of AKOS from a hardware and software sales model to being a Technology as a Service ( TaaS ) provider. Kent led the effort to develop the company’s proprietary enhanced well services platform and develop a leading technology position in the delivery of advanced intervention services in multilateral wells. He and his development team at AKOS are executing on a 5 year plan to further expand the company’s technology base and introduce disruptive products in drilling and fishing.

He has led transformative growth, taking Kodiak Wireline from a $3M, 20-person operation to a $20M+ enterprise employing over 100 people, with operations in Canada, the U.S., and internationally. At Impulse Downhole Tools, he managed testing, and commercialization of a patented completions product line, working closely with engineers and scientists to bring innovative solutions to market.
